Aston University launches first summer school

A summer school for practitioners wanting to expand their clinical skills and gain CET points has been launched by Aston University.

The school will run from July 18-August 5 and is open to optometrists, dispensing opticians, ophthalmologists, orthoptists, ophthalmic nurses and technicians.

Daily workshops will allow practitioners to learn advanced techniques that they can take back to their own practices. Practitioners can attend from just one day up to three weeks, and up to 10 CET points can be gained per day.

Final year optometry students could benefit from a number of the sessions scheduled and are encouraged to attend to gain experience if they wish.

Dr Shehzad Naroo, senior lecturer in the School of Life and Health Sciences, said: “This is a truly innovative scheme and so far we have had applicants from Spain and interest from many other countries too. We hope that we will be able to attract a number of delegates with different backgrounds to make the event more interesting and more fun.”

The summer school will be combined with social events in the evening and weekends, including trips to London and Stratford-upon-Avon.

University accommodation is available at a reduced rate to those attending for whole weeks.
